Black Choice?

  1. I believe that there should be school choice to a certain extent but people of color are not the only people that want specific teaching styles for their children. I think school choice would not be as effective as they think it would. If people were able to pick their schooling, the best schools would be the most populated. There would be more distractions and that is a problem that is happening in more public schools. Most parents want their kid to go to private schools and there are more opportunities for that now but its mainly for kids from failing school districts. If you want a specific teaching style it wold be better off for them to be home schooled more than anything. Homeschooling provides you kid to more hands on learning and your kid would be less distracted. If you want to pick a specific style of teaching, you have to put in the money or time for it. I know some people cant afford it but there are choices for other types of education. - Jasmine

  2. It's not a choice, people follow the rules and follows them. The only choice I see is the choice to go to the school provided or not. There's always someone making the choices for your kid, not exactly you. The only choice I see fits well is the one that if your kid should go to a private school or not. School choice should only be effective to the part of the kid being taught and treated well. - Jo F.

  3. To be honest, I do not agree with the whole gist of this article and the title itself. Everyone today should have the option to freely choose what they want to do and how they do it. This choice we are discussing also should be amplified because it is usually the parent's say in where they child should attend. In addition, this choice only should be altered if sports is involved with the child's athletic career in school. In my opinion, race should have not even be mentioned about school choice. This is because (pointing back to what I said earlier) everyone has the equal CHOICE to decide where they want to attend school. - Jeremiah G.

  4. i believe that school choice is a choice that everyone should have the opportunity to have. Many kids that are considered troubled now are only considered that because of their environment and the people they're around. If they were given a choice o school they would be able to focus more in school and behave better.

  5. I do not think school choice is Black choice. School choice is to help provide better education for people who cant really afford it. Even though most of the people effected by it are Black, they are not the only race that uses school choice. Less fortunate people are not only Blacks. In the article it talks about how some schools have poor treatment toward black people. Discrimination is still an on going problem even now. - Kyla

  6. The school choice nowadays are becoming more bias in my opinion. It's now based on your enviornment and your race more than how you are as a student. If your considered a bad student and no other schools will accept you then you'll go to a charter school or home school is an option. sil

  8. Having a school choice can be a real benefit to people. Everyone deserves to have that choice. I don't think its just a black choice, but black people do have the choice. As a parent if your child isnt getting educated like you want them to or if they're facing racial issues they should have school choice. -ken p.
