Is the Evidence on wearing masks clear?
The Vail School Board members left their meeting after 100 angry parents pushed into the meeting room demanding the district’s masking requirement for students and teachers be removed. This event has gone viral, but how many others are on the brink of going bonkers in similar fashion?
Mask skepticism is well deserved
Dr. Fauci said, "We had enough protective equipment and that cloth masks and homemade masks were as good as masks that you would buy from surgical supply stores."
A group of Duke University researchers conducted the latest study to try and determine if all masks are created equal. Neck fleeces, knitted masks and bandannas proved not to be effective at all because the material is thin and if they become saturated with germs, they can actually be worse than wearing nothing.
A randomized study of 6000 people in Denmark studied the use of mask and found that mask wearing vs unmasked efficacy not statistically significant. So masks did not work.
Dr. Fauci previously stated, "There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And, often, there are unintended consequences — people keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face.” And not many can argue with Dr. Fauci in this case.
The New England Journal of Medicine
The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) is a weekly medical journal published by the Massachusetts Medical Society. It is among the most prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals as well as the oldest continuously published one. They are staunchly NON-partisan.
"We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection. Public health authorities define a significant exposure to Covid-19 as face-to-face contact within 6 feet with a patient with symptomatic Covid-19 that is sustained for at least a few minutes (and some say more than 10 minutes or even 30 minutes). The chance of catching Covid-19 from a passing interaction in a public space is therefore minimal. In many cases, the desire for widespread masking is a reflexive reaction to anxiety over the pandemic."
What about the 6 Feet Apart Guideline?
Lydia Bourouiba, an associate professor at MIT, has researched the dynamics of exhalations (coughs and sneezes, for instance) for years at The Fluid Dynamics of Disease Transmission Laboratory and found exhalations cause gaseous clouds that can travel up to 27 feet.
The Surgeon General
The (former) Surgeon General Jerome Adams tweeted that masks are “NOT effective” against the virus, citing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claim that “well people ‘do not need’ face masks given the ‘short supply.’ ”
SLAM DUNK? The CDC STUDY
The CDC study found that between March and December 2020, face mask orders reduced infection rates by 1.5 percent over the rolling periods of two months each. The masks were 0.5 percent effective in the first 20 days of the mandates and less than 2 percent effective after 100 days.
Recently the CDC removed the requirement to wear masks outdoor if you are fully vaccinated. So is the mask about forced vaccinations or stopping the virus?
