My Conversation with a Former Buckeye Captain Contrasts Meyer with Day to explain Loss to Georgia

Former National Champion and Captain that played under Jim Tressel, Luke Fickel, and Urban Meyer had a lot to chime in about his observations watching practice with Ryan Day at the helm.

In 2011, the Buckeyes finished 6-7 coached by interim coach Luke Fickell. A year later Urban Meyer flips the team around to undefeated  but NCAA sanctions prohibited them from going to a bowl game.

The former captain said the predecessors to Meyer we're X's and O's guys, and Meyer pays others to do that.  The 2014 National Champion and NFL veteran said Meyer is a,  "Motivator that made the Buckeyes believe they could beat the (NFL) Packers."

To contrast Meyer with Day, he used a punt team drill during practice he observed coach Day.  Twice in a row the pints came close to being blocked and coach Day ignored the lack of perfection and said, "Ok guys, next period  ( new set of drills))."  The two-year starting Buckeye captain said when he witnessed this he turned to a fellow former player (astonished like him) and said, " Meyer would have never let that happen!"

Ryan Day is a fantastic coach, but if this former Buckeye is correct, Day needs to become more like Meyer in at least three ways: motivating players, getting players to really believe in themselves and for Ryan Day to practice to perfection.
