Tony Brock is Not Guilty

You don't have to be a lawyer to understand that the media have once again failed to do their job.  In fact a grand jury in 2023 refused to indict Tony Brock.  This case should never make it to court.

Never once is Tony showed one hint of racial preference since I've known him for the last two decades, yet this foolish and ignorant mindset is given oxygen because the media never did their homework and told the actual story the jury heard, a clear self-defense case.

Tony Brock's mother should never have had to dip into hard-earned retirement savings to bail out her son.  I have known Tony Brock for decades, and he is one of the best and decent men that I have ever met.

Tony has his own business that he tries to put neighborhood kids to work and as always there to help anyone who ever asks.

Tony grew up in a rough neighborhood and had a tough life, but managed to get his college degree and has always had a desire to help out his community.  You can check him out on social media, he is constantly spending time with his children and helping get them tutoring and the things they need to be successful.

Even though he is a successful businessman, he is one of the most humble people you will ever meet.   One time in a wrestling match in high school he was getting ready to pin a wrestler, but the wrestler pretended like he was choking. Tony let him up, which ended up costing Tony the match.

If Tony would lose a wrestling match, he would be in good spirits and asked the wrestler that defeated him how he performed the move on him that he did.  Never was Tony out of control or anything but a very composed individual.  He might be the most laid-back individual I've ever met.

Teaching at one of the roughest schools in the state of Ohio was never easy, but Tony was the type of student that made it worth trying to teach in these circumstances.  He was always a decent individual that always worked hard and never once was rude or disrespectful.

Tony stood out in the school that the real graduation rate was probably closer to 25%.  He was so motivated to be a college student that I had me write Hampton University a letter, asking what their holdup was offering him financial assistance that he desperately needed to attend their University.

He not only paid his way through school, but he graduated despite these odds stacked against him.   Most of the males that were in his graduating class never attended College and in many cases were in and out of jail or dead.

Tony Brock was charged by Columbus police with murder after the Nov. 10 fatal shooting of 52-year-old Bret Bennett.

Brett Bennett aimed his gun to shoot at Tony Brock, and Tony, defending himself, grabbed the gun his passenger owned and shot Mr. Bennett in self-defense.  These are the facts the initial grand jury heard that rightfully dismissed the case.

Only after incomplete stories have tainted the jury pool has a new grand jury indicted Tony.

The LAW is Clear!

The Legislative Service Commission staff updates the Revised Code on an ongoing basis, as it completes its act review of enacted legislation. Updates may be slower during some times of the year, depending on the volume of enacted legislation.

Section 2901.09 | No duty to retreat in residence or vehicle.

Ohio Revised Code/Title 29 Crimes-Procedure/Chapter 2901 General Provisions

Effective:April 6, 2021Latest Legislation:Senate Bill 175 - 133rd General AssemblyPDF:Download Authenticated PDF

(A) As used in this section, "residence" has the same meaning as in section 2901.05 of the Revised Code.

(B) For purposes of any section of the Revised Code that sets forth a criminal offense, a person has no duty to retreat before using force in self-defense, defense of another, or defense of that person's residence if that person is in a place in which the person lawfully has a right to be.

(C) A trier of fact shall not consider the possibility of retreat as a factor in determining whether or not a person who used force in self-defense, defense of another, or defense of that person's residence reasonably believed that the force was necessary to prevent injury, loss, or risk to life or safety.

Based on the law, Tony Brock is clearly not guilty.

The Stand Your Ground Ohio law According to Graham Law applies if:

  • They were not at fault in creating the situation;
  • There was a threat of imminent or immediate death;
  • There was a not a reasonable means of retreat; and
  • The use of such force was reasonable.

What benefit is served by convicting a man who acted and self -defense, and is who has been a law-abiding citizen?  And a man lost his life, so Tony will have to live with that for the rest of his life.  But it is a waste of taxpayer money and destroying Tony's life and those he positively impacts daily will not bring back Mr. Bennett.
