Grateful Shedeur Sanders had This To Say
The Browns have had a history of quarterback flops. Let's be in the case, it's no surprise the Browns were not in a hurry to draft a quarterback in the first round. Sanders wasn't their first option for quarterback, and based on his draft position taken, he was a secondary possibility, more of an afterthought, drafting Dylan Gabriel two rounds earlier.
Shedeur Sanders ranked first against top-50 defenses, second in red zone situations and fourth in third/fourth downs. Mel Kiper believe she should have been a first-round draft pick, arguably the best quarterback in the draft.
"Gabriel has some questions related to his size and inconsistent arm strength that relegate him to an intriguing developmental project for his accuracy, athleticism, and winning intangibles. He can do well in a variety of systems that value his running.
Draft projection: Third round to fourth round" (Sporting News).
Trading top pick...Not wanting another flop?
- The Browns have had a lot of different quarterbacks, making it difficult for any one player to find a long-term footing.
- The Browns have made some high-profile draft picks that have not panned out, including first-round quarterbacks like Couch and Manziel.
- Some quarterbacks have faced personal problems that have affected their performance, such as Manziel's issues.
- The Browns have struggled to develop quarterbacks and have been unable to create a stable environment for them to succeed.
The Deion Effect?? Or...
@DeionSanders
"I love what the Browns have done this offseason, but if im a young QB ain't no way im going to Cleveland. I would pull a ELI MANNING If possible." #ThinkAboutthat #Truth
We have to wonder if Deion's statement influenced others to fear his sons refusing to play for particular teams that drafted him. The Browns need a quarterback probably more desperately than any team in the NFL on draft day.
They traded their first round draft pick to Jacksonville that drafted Colorado's Travis Hunt, and in the fifth round traded up to get Colorado's Shedeur Sanders.
NFL Combine Arrogance led to the draft fall?
An anonymous criticism described him as “arrogant” during team meetings at the NFL Combine.
The 3 Knocks on Sanders:
1. Takes too many sacks, holding the all too long 2. Not athletic enough 3. Too arrogant
Is it Predictable Shedeur will do the quarterback of the Browns this fall?
2025 Outlook...
Deshaun Watson recently underwent another surgery to repair a re-ruptured Achilles tendon. His return to playing is uncertain, and the 2025 season is likely to be missed.
Joe Flacco in 2024 was 2–4 record as a starter, with 7 interceptions and 12 touchdowns. In modern conversations, he’s often thought of as “elite for a moment, average most of the time”.
Kenny Picket in over three seasons with the Steelers and later the Philadelphia Eagles, accumulated 4,765 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and 14. A first-round bust.
Dillon Gabriel graded a third or fourth round Prospect by most experts.
Shedeur Sanders is highly motivated to prove he deserved to be a first-round draft pick and will play like he wants to recover the millions of dollars he lost from the drop to fifth round status money contrasted with a first round negotiated pay status.
Mel Kiper's Evaluation of Sanders...
Quick decision-making under pressure. Strong, accurate arm — not just strong, but very polished throws. Great poise — even when Colorado’s offensive line struggled, he stayed calm and kept delivering. Pro-ready mechanics — his footwork, release, and pocket movement already look NFL-level. High football IQ — he’s the son of Deion Sanders and grew up around the game, and it shows in how he reads defenses
It is very predictable that Shedeur Sanders will be the next quarterback of the Cleveland Browns in the fall of 2025. Mel Kiper believes he is one of the few quarterbacks in the draft likely to win a starting position this season, and Sanders is certainly good enough to earn a spot given the current quarterback room for the Cleveland Browns.
How ShedeurSanders could change the future of the Cleveland Browns
If Shedeur Sanders — the star QB from Colorado and son of Deion Sanders — ended up with the Cleveland Browns, he could change their future in a few big ways:
Finally a Franchise Quarterback Potential:
The Browns have struggled for decades to find a true, long-term franchise quarterback. Shedeur has the poise, arm talent, and football IQ to become that leader. If he pans out, he could finally give Cleveland stability at the most important position.
Star Power and Marketability:
Shedeur brings major media attention and charisma. Coming from a famous family and playing under the spotlight already, he'd bring a national spotlight to the Browns — making Cleveland a much bigger brand in the NFL.
Leadership and Culture Shift:
Under Deion’s mentorship, Shedeur has shown maturity, toughness, and leadership. The Browns have long been seen as a "cursed" franchise, but a confident, battle-tested QB could change the locker room mentality and raise expectations across the organization.
Attracting Talent:
A dynamic young quarterback makes Cleveland a more attractive destination for free agents. Receivers, linemen, even defensive players love playing for a team with a QB who can win.
Offensive Evolution:
Shedeur is accurate, mobile when needed, and good at reading defenses. He could open up a more modern, fast-paced offense — something the Browns have tried but not fully succeeded at in recent years.
In short:
If Shedeur develops the way people think he can, he could finally bring Cleveland long-term QB stability, transform their culture, and make them serious Super Bowl contender for years to come. When asked about how he felt after being drafted in the fifth round he said, " I know the whole time God got me, so I wasn't panicking...Of course this adds fuel to the fire..."
